Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in an intentional community or a community-led housing scheme, a sustainable development with like-minded neighbours?
For those thinking along these lines, at some point your forming group of like-minded people will need to set up a legal structure for your community.
This can be a bit of a minefield, what with deciding on what form the community should take, how it will be funded, and looking for land and property coming up for sale.
It’s tempting to plump for what seems best at the time. However, it can help in the long term to do a bit of research into the options available – including those used by existing communities.
We’ve uploaded a legal structures page to this website – which also has a downloadable PDF for more information, and some videos and links to relevant organisations.
Everyone has to start somewhere – good luck with your project!
